By Stephanie Fisher | 06.16.2016

Decluttering is all the rage lately.

Everyone has been reading this book (me included) about getting rid of anything that doesn't "spark joy" when you pick it up. Yes, it's a weird book and the author has affirming conversations with her socks, but the point is...people are attracted to the process of decluttering.

And it's the process that makes it work. If you don't regularly organize and tidy your stuff, it will slowly pile up around you.

Same goes with your email database. You no doubt have many contacts in your database that have changed jobs, or their email address is outdated, or they never click through on your emails. You need a process to deal with this clutter!

Why is this important? You don't want to spam people who aren't interested in your offerings, and you definitely want accurate reporting on open rates and CTR. This helps you get an exact picture of effectiveness of your content and audience engagement.

How to Sniff Out and Smack Down Fake Email

By Stephanie Fisher | 04.20.2016

It's happened to all of us. You check your email, and you see you've got a message...but when you crack it open, it's from an African prince offering to make you rich beyond your wildest dreams, if only you can float him a little loan. Obviously, this is spam. (Unless your life is really different from mine, and you regularly have contact with temporarily broke royalty.)

But sometimes spam is more insidious than this; it might have a reputable company's name at the top, or maybe it might appear to be from someone you know. How can you separate the spam from the legitimate email? Let's put on our spam sleuth hats to learn about the hallmarks of traditional spam email, and some methods you can use to have it banished from your inbox!

Spam-a-Lot

According to the Radicati Group, an estimated 205 billion emails were sent in 2015, breaking down to 2.4 million emails per second. Out of all these emails, it's estimated that 90% of these were spam. Yep, only one in ten emails sent are actually legit, which isn't surprising if you let your spam filter go unchecked for a week or two.
