If you're like me, you may be discovering the joys of upgrading from a dusty iPhone 5 to a deluxe iPhone 7 Plus with 128G of space. I ran the bare minimum of apps on my old crusty phone, and now I'm installing all the apps I've ever wanted. #blessed

Including Google Analytics— yes, you heard me—website analytics on my phone.

What Is Google Analytics and How Can It Benefit You?

The mobile app includes automated insights and dashboard-style views of your website analytics. It presents at-a-glance reports and analysis that once might've taken hours to discover via manual processes.

The more you use the app, the smarter it gets as it learns about your business and needs.

Here's a quick rundown of how the app makes analytics data more widely accessible and useful to you:

  • Mines your data to give you meaningful insights and recommendations.
  • Offers quick tips on how to improve your Google Analytics data.
  • Learns over time by reacting to your feedback and how you use it.

How to Access Google Analytics App and Insights

Step 1: Download the app for devices on Android and iOS.

Step 2: After you've set up the app, click on the Assistant tab to see automated Insights.

Insights illuminated a trend that I had never noticed before just combing through the data on my own:

Our top pages are generally the same, but it pointed out that different pages are popular on different days. I can now use this information to potentially develop stronger opportunities based on the day of the week.

Avg. Session Duration Over Time: Comparison

This view shows you how much time your visitor is spending on your website, and at what times. You can also segment for return visitors and compare their last visit to the most recent.

We know that returning visitors are more engaged, the data shows that clearly—they stick around on the site longer, and they bounce off at a lower rate. Here we can see that 12.5% of total sessions are from return visitors—a nice focus metric that we can work toward improving!

Conclusion

I think this is an incredibly powerful tool to help save time. But don't get lazy! This app doesn’t replace the work of going deep into the bowels of Google Analytics and being comfortable with your data.

I'm excited to keep exploring the app because of the learning aspect. The more you use Google Analytics, the more tailored it gets and the more insights you gain.
