Check Twitter for Breaking News [Quick Tip]

Posted by Rachael Vail-Steele on 1/26/15 10:30 AM

A few weeks ago my fiancé and I were waiting for takeout at a restaurant’s bar. It was Sunday and of course there were multiple football games on. While I was checking in my beer on Untappd, I noticed out of the corner of my eye a massive fight had broken out in one of the games. The players were brawling off the field and into a wall! I had no idea what just happened (my fiancé was glued to the Colts game) so I searched on Google News to see what happened. No dice. Since it just happened there were not any news stories yet.

I searched for the team names on Twitter. Bingo!

I found out what happened through real-time tweets and reactions to the fight. Even the official Twitter of the Carolina Panthers tweeted out a reaction.

Football is an emotional and passionate game. #CARvsNO

For real-time breaking news, check Twitter first!

Local Events - To get information and real-time reactions, search for your city, name of the issues or people involved. Or you can check your city’s hashtag.

National/World Events - Search for names or issues as well as the trending hashtag (examples, the Ferguson protest, grand jury announcements, and Scotland independence vote). The major news outlets may not be reporting it live yet.

Twitter has become a source for breaking news and a way for people all over the world to join the conversation via live tweeting. Twitter also plays a large part in watching TV in real-time shows like Scandal and TV events like Peter Pan LIVE
